Privacy Policy
Effective 27 July 2026 · Puppage is operated by Jeff Jenkins, a sole proprietor in Tennessee, USA
Puppage is a memory journal for your dog: you write entries, add photos, and — if you choose — our Storyteller features retell your week and illustrate your memories, which can be printed as a yearly book. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. The short version: your journal is yours, it is private by default, we don't sell your data, and nothing you write or upload leaves the service except to make the features you asked for work.
1. What we collect
- Account information. Your name, email address, and optional phone number; your sign-in method (Apple, Google, or email).
- Your dog's profile. Name, sex, birth/adoption dates, weight entries, photos, and rescue information you choose to add.
- Journal content. The entries you write, tags, photos you attach, and the memories you mark as featured.
- Order and shipping details. Your shipping address and order history for printed books.
- Payment information. Handled by Apple, Google, or Stripe — we never see or store your card number. We receive confirmation of purchase and subscription status.
- Usage and generation metering. Basic app diagnostics and a per-account record of AI generations (kind, model, cost) used for fair-use limits and support.
- Launch waitlist. If you join the waitlist on getpuppage.com, we store the email address you submit, solely to send you one launch announcement. You can request removal any time at support@getpuppage.app.
2. How AI features use your content
Storyteller is opt-in — two separate toggles, one for written recaps and one for illustrations. When enabled:
- Written recaps and illustration prompts: the text of your journal entries is sent to Anthropic (Claude) to generate your weekly recap and, for illustrated books, a scene description per entry.
- Character sheet: your dog's reference photo is sent to Anthropic once to write a short visual description so illustrations show the same dog consistently.
- Illustrations and Studio portraits: your dog's photo and the scene description are sent to Google (Gemini) to render the image.
We use these providers' commercial APIs, which by their terms do not use your content to train their models. Generated recaps are always labeled, imagined dog-voice passages are always marked "Imagined," and illustrations wait for your approval before they appear in a book. If your account is in memorial mode, playful generated content is suppressed and sensitive generations are held for human review.
3. Who we share information with
- Print fulfillment: when you order a book we send the book file, your name, and shipping address to our print partner (Lulu) to print and ship it.
- Rescue keepsake edition: only if you explicitly opt in at order time, we email your dog's rescue a digital keepsake edition — you approve every page before it sends. This never happens automatically.
- Service providers: hosting and database (Supabase), payments (Apple, Google, Stripe), and the AI providers described above — each only receives what its function requires.
- Legal: if required by law, or to protect the safety of users or the public.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.
4. Retention and deletion
Your journal is kept for as long as you keep your account — including after a subscription lapses, when it remains readable in the app.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account from inside the app, under Settings → Your data, or by emailing support@getpuppage.app. Deletion is not immediate: a 30-day grace period begins, and at any point during it you can sign in and tap “Keep my account” to cancel. Nothing is erased in those 30 days, and your journal stays readable the whole time. After 30 days deletion is permanent — your entries, profile, uploaded photos and generated content are erased from our systems, except records we must keep for tax, order, or legal purposes. Encrypted backup copies of our database may persist for up to 30 additional days before rotating out. Security audit records — timestamps and action types, with no journal content — are retained for 180 days.
Where your photos live. Photos attached to journal entries stay on your phone and are never uploaded to our servers. Your dog’s reference photo, and any photo you upload to Studio, are stored on our servers, because the character-sheet and illustration features described above need them — those are erased when your account is. Because entry photos exist only on your device, a server-side export cannot include them; the in-app download therefore builds the complete copy on your phone — a PDF keepsake with the photos embedded, plus a JSON file listing them by filename.
5. Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking cookies on our websites or in the app, and we do not show cookie banners because there is nothing non-essential to consent to. What we do use: strictly necessary local storage on your own device — your sign-in session and your journal data in the app, and your sign-in session on Puppage Studio — which never tracks you across other sites. Our pages load the Cormorant Garamond and Instrument Sans typefaces from Google Fonts, which involves your browser sending its IP address to Google to fetch the font files; Google does not set cookies through this service. If we ever add analytics or marketing cookies, we will update this policy and add a consent mechanism first.
6. Children
Puppage is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Photos you upload may incidentally include family members; they are treated as your private journal content, shared only as described in section 3.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including California and other US states with privacy laws, and the EEA/UK), you may have the right to access, correct, export, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Contact support@getpuppage.app and we will honor these requests regardless of jurisdiction. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act.
8. Security
Journal content and photos are stored in access-controlled storage with per-account isolation; generated images are served through short-lived signed links; access to production systems is limited and logged. No service can promise perfect security — if we learn of a breach affecting your data we will notify you as the law requires.
9. Changes and contact
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. Questions, data requests, and privacy complaints: support@getpuppage.app · Puppage is operated by Jeff Jenkins, a sole proprietor in Tennessee, USA. We will provide a postal address on request.
Counsel checklist before publication: confirm entity name and address; confirm deletion SLA; confirm CCPA "sale/share" position with the referral program in mind; add EEA/UK lawful-basis table if marketing outside the US; verify AI-provider no-training terms current as of the effective date; remove the noindex tag and the draft banner.
